Occupational Hazzard

Broadcast reports from the famous program of Joe Osabal over KM FM indicated the attempted ambush of Libmanan RTC Judge Jeaneth Gaminde San Joaquin while on her way home to Naga from her office at the Hall of Justice. The attempted ambush reportedly happened while she was approaching the Bulaong bridge located just downtown. The IBP Camarines Sur Chapter and law enforcement agencies in Naga City and Camarines condemned the attempted ambush which they believed to be work-related. As a former RTC judge, I know from my own personal experience the difficulty of handing down a decision in a case. A judge must not only be honest and fair in his decisions but must also be perceived as such. In all decision making as a judge one necessarily has to lose. As of this writing, Supreme Court Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta called on law enforcement agencies to immediately investigate the attack. It is our hope that the culprit will be identified soon so they can answer in the bar of justice.
