CCCom presents the 10 entries of the 4th Peñafrancia Short Film Festival

The Peñafrancia Short Film Festival has gone a long way. It has truly become an effective vehicle in promoting our devotion to Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia. On its 4th year, the City Government of Naga and the Department of Education Region V, the Bicol Catholic Schools and KBP are working together with the Archdiocese of Caceres in promoting this devotion and the success of this endeavor. All the entries were done by High School students from the Bicol region. The schedule of the road shows will be announced later. The awards night will be on October 8, 2017 at the Universidad de Sta Isabel. The 10 official entries for the 4th Peñafrancia Short Film Festival 1. ANG NINGNING NI TALA from PHIILPPINE SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL, BICOL REGION CAMPUS When the day comes to an end the sun takes its leave, Tala tries her best to keep the night alive in the convenience store where she works. Upon Tala’s death, a sense of gratitude and a stroke of fate brings together three strangers who each have their stories to tell. 2. BANAAG from BAAO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Sa isang pamilyang naghihikahos sa araw araw, tanging pananampalataya lamang kay Ina ang nagsisilbing liwanag sa kanilang buhay. Subalit dahil sa isang munting pangarap ay masusubukan ang tibay ng kanilang paninindigan at pananampalataya. Hanggang saan kaya aabot ang BANAAG ni Ina sa kanilang buhay? 3. PANANALIG from VINZONS PILOT HIGH SCHOOL Pananalig is a story of 4 related students who had different challenges in life. Through Ina, they were able to pass through the hurdles that strengthened their faith in people and in God. 4. HILO from ATENEO DE NAGA UNIVERSITY A parish priest and an altar boy find themselves in the middle of an armed-conflict in Mindanao. They were taken hostages by an Islamic extremist group. At the brink of despair, they are torn where to seek redemption - brutal vengeance or unstrained mercy. 5. OMELET from LIGAO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Omelet is a short film that features the lives of Lorna, an abortionist and Mark, her son. The motivations behind Lorna’s immoral practice is explored in the film. One afternoon while Lorna performs an abortion, Mark discovers how his mother makes ends meet for them.This trigger an innocent yet heart-wrenching discourse into life, its meaning and its value. 6. PASALUBONG from UNIBERSIDAD DE STA. ISABEL Pasalubong a film by Louie Andrei de Jesus revolving around the life struggles of Mary Ann Encinas (Bernadith Role), a mother and devotee of Ina (Our Lady of Peñafrancia). This motion picture depicts issues on faith, social expectations and our functions in the community. Mary Ann Encinas would challenge us on how far our faith can take us. 7. TORIK (Insane) from CAMARINES SUR NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Angelo, a delinquent high school student who is going through some problems about his family and issues concerning his friends, met Roger, a person with a psychiatric condition who still remain faithful to God and in his devotion to Ina despite his circumstances. Because of Roger, Angelo learned the true meaning of friendship and the value of having a fervent faith in God. Eventually, he had a change of heart and deeply brought inspiration in the lives of the people around him, most especially his family. 8. PANINIMBAGAN from NAGA PAROCHIAL SCHOOL The story revolves around a man whose dark past transforms him into becoming a good devout Christian philanthropist. Despite his constant struggle to veer away from his past life, his path unexpectedly crosses with MJ, a child whose mother was savagely attacked, and was sent to a mental institution because of complications. This left him traumatized through the years. Their unexplainable and unusual encounter unveils their deeper connection aside from being strangers – truly for them, blood is thicker than water. 9. Kung Sakaling Di Mabatid from NAGA CITY SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL A girl who lost her faith in Ina finds her way back through a seemingly uninterested guy. Set in an unexpected meet up followed by another and then some, could their acquaintance over several cups of coffee change her beliefs and rekindle her faith amidst their differences? 1O. MUSING from NABUA NATIONAL HIgh School Intoy is a street orphan who was dreaming to see Inang Peñafrancia and continue his family’s devotion. Together with his friends Nano and Abel, he tried to save money for the fiesta but unfortunately encountered a problem with Bruno along the way. Now he faces the dilemna of choosing between his personal dreams and his family devotion to Ina.
