Pamplona secondary schools hold media colloquium

Cezar Pamplona, Camarines Sur- To understand the role and influence of dynamic media landscape in creating and shaping public opinion, the secondary schools in Pamplona District conducted the first-ever media colloquium geared on the theme, “21st Media and Information Literacy: Legal, Ethical and Social Issues” on October 11, 2017 at Sports Complex, Pamplona, Camarines Sur. The event which was spearheaded by Ramon B. Felipe Sr. National High School, in cooperation with Pamplona National High School and Del Rosario National High School, convened the 209 Senior High School students to tackle Media and Information Literacy and Empowerment Technologies. “Media makes us part of something greater than ourselves and connects us to the different places in the world; with that range of interaction, this colloquium is timely to note our responsibilities as users,” said by Dr. Lorenzo G. Mañago, RBFSNHS Principal, in his opening remarks. The resource speakers from local media were seasoned broadcast- journalists Elmer S. Abad (RMN-DWNX) and Moises O. Derla (Brigada FM) and from academe, Erwin L. Recto (Broadcasting Coach/ Publication Adviser- Naga City Science High School). Dr. Imelda S. Del Rosario (Public Schools District Supervisor) in her message emphasized the value of comments and posts on Facebook and the unlimited opportunities venue by social media sites. The specific topics, Intellectual Property Rights, Media Ethics, Media Management and Productions, Fake News and Responsible Use of Online Platforms raised awareness on the students’ use of various media as producers and receivers of information adhering to legal and ethical standards. Part of the colloquium design was the forum that gave room to students’ queries and had deepened the activity. The colloquium is the required performance standard of the MIL subject focusing on developing media and information literate individuals. Behind the success of the activity were the proponents and organizers Berna Lou A. Cezar, Marjie O. Meña, Sarah Mae Barrosa and Russel C. Brondo. Prior to the colloquium, the Ramon B. Felipe Sr. National High School Grade 12- Dauntless students had the one- day “MIL-lennial Ocular Visit” in different media stations and Emergency Response Offices in Naga City on August 25, 2017.
