Floodwaters hit downtown Legazpi

By Mar S. Arguelles LEGAZPI CITY --- Cedric Daep, chief of Albay Public Safety Emergency and Management Office (APSEMO) said that about one-foot-deep flood waters was observed in Legazpi’s business district and several urban villages here. Heavy rains measuring at 28mm pelted Albay for the past 24 hours, from 8:00 a.m. Tuesday to 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, that slightly swelled river channels and drainage system bringing flood waters in low lying areas of the city. Daep in an interview said “what triggered the flooding was the 8mm rainfall that pelted Albay between 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. today (Wednesday) but flood waters subsided immediately during the succeeding hours.” He said once heavy downpour continues, he expects flooding in flood plains in the towns in the second and third districst of Albay. Landslide could also hit mountain slopes in the towns of Sto. Domingo, Malilipot, Malinao, Tiwi, Manito and Rapu-rapu. “These areas are considered as landslide prone,” Daep said.
