Hand painted gowns by 18-year-old Bicolana fit for Hollywood red carpet

RALPH Lauren once said, “I don’t design clothes. I design dreams.”

And like the top US designer, creations by Tisha Rose P. Chavez, an 18 year old artist from RJ Village, Haring, Canaman, Camarines Sur.

In a tweet that has gone viral, Chavez presented gowns she hand painted that could be mistaken for couture gowns knocked up by big French fashion houses.

In an interview with INQUIRER LIBRE, Tisha, who has been hand painting gowns since 2017, said she got the idea after seeing a creation made by actress and style icon Heart Evangelista.

“The first gown in my tweet was inspired by Heart Evangelista’s work which is the pic that I sent. My sister actually got the idea of me designing hand-painted gowns because of her (Heart) previous works. Sobrang nagandahan po kasi ako sa mga gawa n’ya.” Tisha said.

Tisha adds that some of her paintings would take up to three days to complete. She admits that she doesn’t design the gowns; she only paints on them.

Some of her works were inspired by classic works of Van Gogh and the animated Disney films.

Tisha has earned some pocket money for what was once her hobby. And because her works are not available in stores or shops, her clients include those having debut or attending school prom.

The young artist who just finished her senior high at the Ateneo de Naga University, is the youngest of two daughters of Engr. Warren and Dolores Chavez. She is a niece of Bicol Mail editor Joe Perez and Bicol Mail editorial cartoonist Engr. Jordan ‘Nonong’ Chavez.

Her parents own Tribo Bikolano, a pasalubong center whose products can be found in all J. Emmanuel Pastries – The House of Pili shops in Naga and Legazpi.

Those living in Manila or other parts of the country can also sample Tisha’s artistry. Just send the gown and she’ll ship the finished garment back to you.
