Newsmen undergo Lenten recollection

NAGA CITY --- The Caceres Commission on Communication (CCCom) in cooperation with the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) and its Community Advisory Board (CAB) began the observance of the Holy Week by engaging media practitioners in a Lenten recollection held last Friday.

Aimed at fostering reflection and fellowship among the media practitioners in the spirit of the Lenten Season, members of the media in print, broadcast and TV, young and old members, were given the opportunity to gather and reflect, take seriously and devotedly the meaning of the mystery of the paschal celebration.

“We are going into the desert these 2 to 3 hours before we enter the Holy Week, just like Jesus when He went to the desert to pray, and when we go out from here, we are refreshed, renewed and more energized as we enter the Holy Week,” said Rev. Fr. Louie Occiano, CCCom chairman.

Rev. Fr. Mamerto A. Bagayaua delivered a talk on Lenten reflections where he expounded on the following topics: 3 things that change ones’ lives, lessons for a deeper faith in Lent, 40-day program, how to live in this passing world, what may happen to us, and the role and responsibility of the media.

The activity was also graced by Archbishop Rolando Octavus Joven Tria-Tirona, OCD, where he gave his modest message on the importance of networking or announcing, and what it is to be in Communion.

“Today, many people are walking here and there, confused – asking where they would go, where to go to help the truth, where to go to know the way, and where to go to know life. In your profession, you play a very important role in answering those questions. You just stand up and say – ‘We will show you the way. We will show you the truth. We will show you, life,” Tirona said.

After the talk on Lenten reflections, participants joined the Station of the Cross, while others took on the confession and consultation with Rev. Fr. Baltazar Anthony “Toots” Imperial.

The activity concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharistic Mass officiated by Fr. Occiano.

Tirona lauded the organizers for undertaking this activity. “I salute you and I pray that you really continue doing so, because if there is one thing the church wants us to always set in our minds and especially deep in our hearts is precisely that moment when Jesus offered Himself for our salvation,” Tirona added.
