Caceres Launches 5th Peñafrancia Short Film Festival
The Archdiocese of Caceres, through the Caceres Commission on Communications, in cooperation with the Department of Education - Region V and the Local Government of Naga City have launched the 5th Peñafrancia Short Film Festival with the theme: “The Youth With Ina: Beloved, Gifted and Empowered”. A Shortfilm Festival highlighting the youth as stewards of creation and builders of a bright future with their youthful passion.
The Peñafrancia Short Film Festival was conceptualized in 2013 under the inspiration of the late Most Rev. Leonardo Z. Legaspi, OP, who dedicated his remaining years as shepherd of the Local Church of Caceres in propagating his love and devotion to INA, Our Lady of Peñafrancia. He produced a film for Her “Ikaw ang Pag-ibig” with the late multi awarded Film Marilu Diaz Abaya as its Director. Inspired by his love to INA, the organizers came up with Peñafrancia Short Film Festival to discover young filmmakers produce shortfilms that will help in promoting the devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia.
Now on its fifth year, the Peñafrancia Short Film Festival has already discovered and developed filmmakers who will bring not only their talents but above all the gospel values to the film industry. Inspired by the previous 4 festivals (October 2013, September 2014, September 2015 and September 2017), the Executive Committee unanimously agreed to hold another festival this Year of the Youth 2019.
The 5th Peñafrancia Short Film Festival will have three (3) activities. The first is the Shortfilm Workshop Seminars which will be on July 27-28.
