Peñafrancia Fiesta 2019 All Set

All roads again lead to Naga City, as we draw closer to Our Lady of Peñafrancia fiesta. This has come to be an important marker of the city’s identity, so much so that Naga often refers to as the Pilgrim City being the home of the Regional Patroness of Bicol, and thereby Naga becomes also the home of all her devotees.

This year, 2019, the feast is marked with the celebration of the Church’s Year of Youth. The theme for this year’s Peñafrancia Fiesta is: “Doing Christ’s Mission with the Youthful hearts with Mary.” It will begin as early as always with a novena—nine days of prayer—starting on September 3 with an early evening Mass and procession of the Divino Rostro from Our Lady of Peñafrancia Basilica to the Peñafrancia parish church. Each day during the novena, from September 4 to September 12, there will be dawn and evening Masses, confessions, and a penitential procession, often at dawn, at the Old Shrine of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. In attendance during the novenario will be from different groups; youth, families, educators, the sick, poor and prisoners, and government workers among them.

The feast of the Divino Rostro, on September 13, will be celebrated with the dawn candlelight penitential procession from Basilica Minore to the Old shrine. Th voyadores, with special participation of women, traditionally barefoot, would draw the ropes or carry the andas bearing Ina as they carry Ina from the basilica to the parish church. The Archbishop ROlando J. Tirona will preside over the mass in the morning. In the afternoon, the traslacion procession from the old shrine to the Naga Cathedral will mark the start of the novenario in honor of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. The eve of the feast day, September 21, Ina and the Divino Rostro will be brought back to the Basilica by Fluvial Procession. The Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia, DD will preside over the mass after the fluvial procession.

The Our Lady of Peñafrancia Basilica Office has also released this years logo. The Youth & Devotees open their arms wide to accept their mission in life... While the different colors signify youthfulness and festive mood.

Another feature of this year’s fiesta, the youth will be given the privilege to ride on the Pagoda during the fluvial procession.
