“The Rockstar Triathlon is daring, adventurous, and fun.”

To suit this theme of the 2019 Rockstar Triathlon, the event was held at the sports and adventure capital of the Philippines, Camarines Sur.

Sixty-eight professional triathletes from different parts of the country gathered at the Camarines Sur Watersports Complex (CWC) last 25 August 2019 to join the Rockstar Triathlon hosted by eXtribe, a premier organizer of world-class triathlon events. The triathlon was comprised of a 2km swim, 70km bike, and 18km run.

“While we are racing, we also want our family and friends who are supporting and inspiring us to have fun. That is why CWC is the new home of the Rockstar Triathlon, there are lots of activities that the triathletes and their families can enjoy here, including wakeboarding, skateboarding, and playing at the Aqua Park. All activities are here!” said organizer and rockstar turned triathlete, Reujen Lista.

“Being a rockstar is about being daring, passionate, and fun; you can feel all these in CWC. CamSur is an iconic place! We are also greatly supported by people here, especially Congressman Lray and Governor Migz Villafuerte,” Lista added.

The triathlon had a Rockband Category, a relay category where triathletes competed in groups, and each group was comprised of three members. Participants swam across the Lago del Rey during the swim challenge, cycled around several barangays in Pili during the bike challenge, and ran around the Provincial Capitol Complex during the run challenge.

To ensure the safety and security of all participants, the provincial government established an Incident Command Post managed by representatives from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in CWC. Standby medical teams, comprised of doctors and nurses from the Provincial Health Office, were also stationed near the swim course.

“This triathlon is very memorable for me because my first ever triathlon in 2010 was also held here in CamSur. I’ve been a triathlete for a long time, and I already competed in many triathlons conducted in different places. I can say that CamSur is really a great place for sports and adventure!” said 2019 Overall Rockstar Champion, Ronald Molina.

The Rockin’ Concert, an afterparty, was also held at the CWC Zeach Bar. The concert featured famous rockbands, including Advent Call, Alibata, and Fume.

Moreover, eXtribe plans to hold their next sports events in CamSur again, including a mountain bike race, a swim-run race, and a multi-sports festival. According to eXtribe, they plan on making CamSur a “race-cation,” where athletes can travel for the race and stay for a vacation.

CWC is a consistent venue of world wakeboard championships, national road bicycle races, and prestigious triathlons. Another well-developed sports tourism destination in CamSur is Caramoan; it is a consistent location choice for multiple international shows and the biggest open water swims in the Philippines.
