NAGA CITY ---Bicol AccessHealth Centrum strengthened its position as the most comprehensive private healthcare facility in the Bicol region with the opening of the AcessHealth Heart Institute’s Cardiovascular Catheterization Laboratory (Cathlab) dedicated to coronary artery disease patients.
Dr. Anderson L. Lazo, head of the institute, said that the new Cathlab will provide top-rate imaging of the coronary arteries. “Through the Cathlab, we will be able to diagnose the presence or absence of coronary artery disease and establish the significance of these diseases. It can help us determine if a patient will require major coronary treatment, or simply not need one.”
The Cathlab is the first of its kind in the region and can provide services to other parts of Southern Luzon. It houses state-of-the-art facilities that include latest filmless digital imaging equipment, including an all-digital x-ray cardiovascular imaging suite. The rooms also have new monitoring systems that connect to a central database location.
Lazo said the Cathlab is a life-saving facility for patients having a heart attack. Other patients who may qualify for a Cathlab procedure include those who are on maximum disease medication, but still have chest pains and are easily fatigued.
It will perform a variety of cardiovascular interventions such as: cardiac catheterization, carotid aniography, coronary angiography, coronary stents, pacemaker implantation, and transesophageal echos. (JBN)
