The 30th sea games

As the 30th SEA games draws to its conclusion tonight with the colorful Parade of Nations, the whole country is at its euphoria as it celebrates a windfall of 149 gold medals and more bronze and silver medals with a total of about 530 medals all to its credit. In an inspiring farewell address during the closing ceremonies before Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) officials, athletes and delegates at the Olympic stadium in Tarlac City, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Chairperson of the POC, was profuse in extending his gratitude to all the athletes in their show of sportsmanship in all the events participated in by them, saying at the same time that he looks forward to the 31th SEA games in Vietnam. Parenthetically, the performance showed by our athletes in all the events indicates without an iota of doubt that Filipinos are not lacking in talents when it comes to sports. Some sports enthusiasts and pundits are at this time proposing to make sports as part of the curriculum in all private and public schools in the country. Be that as it may, the recent holding of the 30th SEA games in the country has no doubt projected the Philippines not only in the Asean limelight but in the world as well. And so also, the ensuing economic benefits for hosting the games can not easily be disregarded.

This writer wishes to commend the city administration for the fast clean-up drive it initiated from all debris as a consequence of the destruction wrought by typhoon Tisoy. We likewise commend the Casureco management for the relatively fast restoration of systems service in the city.
