DPWH finishes Gubat scenic road dike

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a coastal road dike project that now protects the town of Gubat, Sorsogon from storm surge and offers motorists a picturesque ocean view.

Citing a report from DPWH Bicol regional director Virgilio C. Eduarte, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the recently-completed Ariman-Panganiban Coastal Road and Shore Protection is a two-in-one road and dike project along the coastal barangays of Panganiban, Pinontingan, and Ariman in the town of Gubat.

“Originally aimed to protect this coastal area from flooding and rising seas, as well as provide alternative road to motorists, this 374-linear meter road dike is now attracting tourists as it showcases scenic view of the sea,” said Secretary Villar.

The construction of the dike road was completed by DPWH Bicol regional office last October 2019 in the amount of P96.50 million funded under the 2018 General Appropriations Act.

The project also covers provisions of shoulder, lined canal, rock and earthworks, guardrails, slope protection, and deflector.
