Police eye suspect in Indian killing

BULA, Camarines Sur--- Police authorities are looking into the nationality of the suspect in the murder of an Indian national on Jan 19 in Bula, Camarines Sur, the chief of the Bula Municipal Police Station (MPS) here said.

Bula MPS chief, Major Fernando B. Cedo, said they are investigating the possibility that the suspect is also an Indian national, who has an axe to grind against the victim due to personal or business rivalry.

Police Colonel Roderico Roy Jr., Camarines Sur provincial director, said that feuds between Indian nationals in the province is public knowledge because in the past, the Philippine National Police (PNP) already solved numerous cases involving Indian nationals.

The victim, Singh-Surjit Kaur, 40 was shot to death while inside his car, which was parked near a market place at Brgy. Balaogan in Bula. He was waiting for his wife and another person who were collecting payments for their money lending business. The victim sustained gunshot wound at the left side of the head near the nape and left ear.

Cedo said that based from their investigation, witnesses heard the victim saying “kun may mangadan man sakuya, kapwa ko bombay” (If someone kills me, he will be my fellow Indian). According to the victim’s widow and his family, the victim never received any death threats and he had no record of causing trouble, Cedo said.

The police chief said that based from CCTV footage, the suspect after the shooting left the scene aboard a motorcycle.

The killer took with him the victim’s bag containing a cellular phone and undetermined amount of money.

The victim was a businessman and a resident of San Miguel, Iriga City.
