95 new cops assign in Naga under quarantine

NAGA CITY --- The 95 newly commissioned police officers deployed by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Bicol regional office on Apr. 18 here to assist in the enforcement of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) regulations were themselves subjected to the mandatory 14-day isolation period by the city government as part of the measures mandated by the health department to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

The police officers, who are now completing their 14-day quarantine period (April 18-May 1) at the Metro Naga Sports Complex in Barangay Pacol, comprised the augmentation force from Camp Simeon Ola in Legazpi City who were sent here by B/Gen. Anthony S. Alcañeses, Bicol police regional director.

Mayor Nelson Legacion thanked Alcañeses for the assignment here of the policemen who just graduated from training in Camp Ola.

Legacion said the mandatory quarantine period for the neophyte police officers is a part of the preventive measures mandated by the Department of Health, which is aimed at preventing the spread of Covid-19.

As of Apr. 21, the Bicol region has 28 confirmed Covid-19 cases, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

After May 1, the end of the quarantine period imposed on the 95 cops, they will be deployed in the city’s 27 barangays to man checkpoints set up in the borders especially the Naga-Pili and Naga-Milaor areas, and provide security to various humanitarian efforts being undertaken by non-government organizations and the local government.
