Village official nabbed, son slain in drug raid

TINAMBAC, Camarines Sur--- An barangay councilor of Barangay Bagacay here was nabbed by police operatives who served  a search warrant, while the suspect’s son was killed in a gunfight on Tuesday, Sept. 17, a police report said.


Major Gary Mangente, Tinambac police chief, identified the arrested barangay official as Josefa Begino, 46, listed as a high value target, and her son who was killed as Joven Begino, 28, also listed in the provincial recalibrated priority database on illegal drugs.


Mangente said that the suspects were known drug peddlers in the barangay and were the subjects of police operation after they received numerous complaints from village residents.


Based from the police report, Joven  fired his caliber 45 pistol  at the police operatives as the latter approached his house. In retaliation, the police fired back causing his instant death. The operation resulted in the recovery of three small plastic sachets of suspected shabu, home-made shotgun, ammunitions, and drug paraphernalia.  


The police also found 17 more sachets of suspected shabu  in a search warrant operation at Beginos’ house after the shootout. 


The Tinambac police chief said  that the search warrant for Joven pertained to violation of R.A.10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, while the search warrant for his mother was connected to R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
