New Naga police HQ to rise soon in Balatas

NAGA CITY --- Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion has announced on Monday, Nov. 16, before police personnel that the city’s new central police station will soon be relocated in Barangay Balatas here.

During the activation ceremony of the newly created Police Station (PS) 6 at the Naga City Police Office grounds, Mayor Nelson Legacion said that the more than 50-years old central police station in barangay Sta Cruz will be relocated soon at Barangay Balatas.

He said the city government under his term will provide over 1,500 square meters of lot in Balatas as the site of the new police headquarters.

Legacion said the location of the new police headquarters is strategic giving policemen faster access to all parts of the city.

In his speech, Legacion added that another lot along Almeda Highway measuring more than 500 square meters will be the site of the new PS 2.

The old PS 2 in Rotunda, Concepcion Pequeña, will be made as a sub-station and another lot will be provided for the relocation of the old PS 3, which is presently located along Peñafrancia Avenue in the city.

Col. Marlon Catan, Naga City police chief, in his speech during the same ceremony narrated that during the recent typhoons, he felt the building of the central station shaking due to strong winds.

Catan said the newly established PSs 5 and 6 are already operational.

Catan, told Bicol Mail that PS 5 located at the new Central Business District (CBD) infront of ALDP Mall serves the densely populated barangays of Triangulo and Mabulo, where theft and robbery incidents regularly occur.

He said the PS 6, which is situated in Barangay Cararayan, covers San Felipe, Balatas and Cararayan.

Catan said there are some 400 police personnel assigned in the city. This number would be increased to 600 when his request for additional personnel is approved by the police regional office.

Meanwhile, senior master sergeant Tobias Bongon III, city police spokesperson, said that barangay Dayangdang is included among the list of patrol areas under the command of the new Police Station 5.

Maj. Rey Alvarez is the station commander of PS 5 while Capt. Arthur Borja heads PS 6.
