Archbishop appeals for typhoon victims’ aid
Caceres Archbishop Rolando J Tria Tirona issued an circular letter to all parishes of Caceres:
On December 14, 2021 Typhoon Odette (Rai) entered the PAR and made landfall on Friday, Dec. 17 in Central Negros devastating communities in the Provinces of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental.
According to the situationer report submitted by Caritas Philippines, at least 10 dioceses were devastated by super typhoon Odette (international name: Rai). Among these, the partial report gathered indicates that the dioceses of Tagbilaran in Bohol, Cebu, Maasin in Leyte, and Surigao in Surigao del Norte, are considered severely damaged by the typhoon. More areas are expected to be added tomorrow when situations improve.
This situation refreshes memories of the disasters we experienced when Typhoon Rolly and three super typhoons hit our province one after the other. There was so much devastation to communities and Parishes, yet we surpassed the trials with the help from other Dioceses.
In the spirit of solidarity with our Sister Dioceses, please appeal to your Parishioners to extend help through the second collection of your masses this Sunday, December 19, 2021. As we prepare for Christmas, let us not forget the Filipino families, especially children, who were affected by typhoon Odette. Let us help them celebrate the birth of Christ through our kindness, compassion and generosity.
