Bicolano tops optometrist licensure board exams

By Paolo Gabriel Jamer

Dr. Louie Mallari, who is from a family of optometrists in Sipocot, Camarines Sur, bagged the No. 1 slot in the 2021 Optometrist Licensure Examinations.

Mallari finished his degree in Optometry in Centro Escolar University last 2020. His mother, who is an optometrist, served as his inspiration, especially when patients expressed their gratitude to his mother when they regained their clear eye sight after treatment.

He stressed the importance of having a comprehensive eye examination especially if one is using a computer for several hours a day,

"Since a lot of students are now learning through online class, digital eyestrain is very common. It can be prevented by prescribing lenses that protect us from the radiation," he added.

Mallari said his strong faith in God was instrumental in landing on the top spot of the licensure exam.

"To all computer users out there, I'd like to suggest to have your eyes checked by an optometrist. You may also follow the 20-20-20 rule. That for every 20 minutes of near work, look at far for about 20 seconds," Mallari advised computer users.
