CamSur residents get free check-up

By Ana-Liza Macatangay

Thousands of residents from Camarines Sur and some parts of the Bicol region received free medical check-up from Senator Risa Hontiveros’ Mobile Health Clinic under the Healthy Pinas project, in partnership with Ako Bicol Partylist (AKB) and Bridges of Benevolent Initiatives Foundation, Inc.

The free medical check up activities were also conducted in coordination with various local government units (LGUs) as recipients of the medical mission.

The medical activity will run for 11 days and will be conducted in various parts of the Bicol region.

In Pili, the mobile clinic was conducted at Barangay La Purisima, where 300 indigents from various barangays were able to avail of the free medical check-up and consultation held July 15.

Barangay La Purisima chief Sandy “Kap Ola” Bicaldo said that the medical mission is a timely response specially to impoverished residents who can’t afford to go to the hospital to have their medical check-up due to financial difficulties and due to the on-going pandemic.

“We are so fortunate to be one of the recipients of this project. They brought with them doctors, ECG, X rays, ultrasound machine and conducted blood chem. These tests are expensive if done in private hospitals that is why I want to thank AKB team, Sen. Risa and our “Tatay”, Pili Mayor Tomas Bongalonta, for making this program possible,” Kap Ola added.

Pili Mayor Tom Bongalonta said that the program is a big help to the residents of Pili specially now that most of them are afraid to go to hospital for fear of being infected with Covid- 19. He added that these services are what the people need especially during these most trying times.

Aside from La Purisima, the roving clinic team already visited various municipalities and provinces in the Bicol region.

The first mobile clinic was launched in Barangay Banquerohan in Legazpi City on July 4 with 9 villages as beneficiaries, while the second one was held at the Iriga City Sports Center on July 5, benefitting residents coming from 36 barangays.

It was subsequently conducted July 7 in Brgy. Buyo, Goa, Camarines Sur; July 10 at Bigaa Elementary School, Legazpi City; July 13 in Ligao City; July 15 in Lapurisima, Pili and July 17 at Bahay Covered Court in Brgy. Bahay, Libmanan, Camarines Sur. July 19 in Mercedes and July 21 in Labo, both in Camarines Norte.
