IN recent events reported to Bicol Mail, a disturbing incident unfolded within the confines of a public school classroom, shedding light on the inappropriate behavior of a teacher towards Grade III pupils. It is disheartening to hear about instances where educators resort to verbal assault, undermining the very essence of their role as mentors and cultivators of young minds.

The reported incident reveals a teacher frustrated with her students’ inability to comprehend her instructions. While challenges in the classroom are not uncommon, the response exhibited was both unprofessional and harmful. Resorting to name-calling, specifically labeling the children as “mga patal” (stupid or halfwit), not only violates the principles of effective teaching but also perpetuates an environment of fear and intimidation.

Education is a partnership between educators, students, and parents, with the latter contributing through their hard-earned taxes to support the public education system.
