Legacion updates Nagueños on city’s key infra projects

By Jordan Domingo

THE first phase of the Naga City Convention Center, funded with an initial budget of ₱100 million, is currently under construction. Mayor Nelson Legacion revealed that phase two of the project, backed by ₱150 million secured by his administration, is slated to begin in 2025.

He clarified that the convention center is a multi-year project expected to be completed by 2028.

The construction of the Bicol River Esplanade, which Mayor Legacion facilitated through funding from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), is now 50% complete.

He emphasized the need for additional funding to implement a revetment project from the Sagop Creek area to the Almeda-Mabolo Bypass Road, which includes a section passing over the creek’s bridge. Legacion expressed optimism that this project will be completed by 2025, contingent on national government funding for the additional works.

He also discussed updates on the proposed People’s Park and Recreation Center, which requires at least five hectares of land. The project has identified an additional one-hectare lot without a registered owner, which the city government plans to reclaim, increasing the total area to six hectares.

The five-hectare lot is currently subject to an ongoing expropriation process, temporarily delaying the park’s development. However, Legacion noted that the flood mitigation wall component of the project can proceed ahead of the court’s order of expropriation.

A cultural center, part of the People’s Park and Recreation Center project, will include an open space of approximately two hectares for concerts and outdoor activities. Legacion reiterated that construction can only formally begin after the city secures the court order for the expropriation of the land.

Mayor Legacion assured Nagueños of his administration’s commitment to realizing these projects and securing additional funding to ensure their timely completion.
