Mt. Mayon veggies given in Albay pantry

By Cet Dematera

A community pantry put up in Albay province is giving out vegetables and other products grown and harvested from the slopes of Mayon Volcano.

Max Brobio of Barangay Bongabong in Tabaco City said he and her sister Shiela were inspired to put up the community pantry after they were inspired by the first pantry put in Maginhawa, Quezon City, which turned viral in the social media.

“We are inspired by this pantry that’s why we decided to put up one out of our own pocket,” Brobio said.

Villages around the slopes of Mayon Volcano are famous for selling vegetables, tomatoes and other produce at very low prices.

Brobio said they are buying the newly harvested vegetables of the farmers of Barangay Buang, where vegetables and other crops are abundantly growing due to its fertile soil that came from Mayon Volcano.

He said that the 250 kilos that they displayed were immediately picked up by the adjacent residents who are also severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Brobio said that teachers and other persons have already talk to him even as they signified their intention to also donate items and other goods that would augment the basic need of the pandemic affected persons.

“We hope that this community pantry that I put could attract more donors and help more poor people,” Brobio said.
