PDAO: No politics in food aid for PWDs

By Paulo DS. Papa

The distribution of food assistance to bedridden persons with disability (PWD) living in the Naga City is a quarterly activity in compliance with the city ordinance no. 2020-072 and not connected to the forthcoming local and national elections, the Person with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) said.

Paul John Barrosa, PDAO chief, said the distribution for this year will start on the third week of April that will benefit 502 bedridden PWD. Each beneficiary will receive a food pack consisting of one-kilogram powdered milk, 10 kilos of rice, a kilo of oatmeal, pancit and five canned goods.

Barrosa, who passed the 2020/2021 Bar exams, told Bicol Mail that based on the ordinance, the city government is required to allot funds and procure the food items for distribution to the beneficiaries.

He said PWD belong to the sectors most affected by the pandemic. He added that people without disabilities can make a living during pandemic compared to PWDs, thus they should receive such assistance.

He stressed that there is no politics behind the distribution of food aid to PWD.
