Single mom survives serious illnesses due Black Nazarene

By Paolo Gabriel D. Jamer

Lucia Ada Tena, a single mother from Milaor, said she survived multiple heart attacks and woke up from being comatose because of her devotion to the Black Nazarene.

According to Ada, she started her devotion to the Black Nazarene in 1998 and since then she has always remained committed to her devotion until she suffered multiple heart attacks that made her comatose for several days. She said the Black Nazarene appeared to her while she was comatose and the face of Jesus, with blood pouring down on His face, smiled at her then she woke up. It was this first miracle to Ada by the Black Nazarene that strengthened her faith.

She further added that the Black Nazarene also saved her life when she gave birth to her only son. The doctor told Adatena that her pregnancy was highly risky and it is matter of being alive or dead upon giving birth but her faith again prevailed and another miracle happened.

Ada suffered anew from a massive heart attack and her son at that time was only one year old. The doctor told her that her potassium level was very low and that she will not live any longer. She questioned her faith and she was already in despair. "Lord kun kukuanon mo po ako bahala kana po pero kung may chance pa tabangan mo man po ako ta ang aki ko dugay pa Ama," she prayed.

She was seriously ill but it did not stop her from attending the novena masses in the Holy Cross Parish in Barangay Tabuco, Naga City. Miraculously during the feast day of the Black Nazarene, she felt strong and healthy.

Her 13-year-old son is also a devotee of the Black Nazarene. According to her, the devotion to the Black Nazarene gives her hope and ease whatever trials she will face with the mercy of the Black Nazarene. "Bako madali an mga agi-agi kan buhay alagad sa debosyon ko saiya nagiging magian an buhay ko," she said.

The novenary masses for the Black Nazarene started on Dec. 31 until Jan 8 and the annual saint’s feast day is celebrated on Jan. 9. Here in Naga City, there will be a mobile procession around the city on its feast day due to observance of health protocols followed by a pontifical mass in Holy Cross Parish in Barangay Tabuco.
