Solon pushes for bill creating TESDA center in Ligao

By Connie Calipay

LEGAZPI CITY --- Albay 3rd District Rep. Fernando Cabredo on Wednesday urged the House of Representatives to pass House Bill (HB) 1406, which seeks to establish a Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) training and assessment center in Ligao City.

Cabredo said the need to establish additional training centers is due to the increasing number of trainees that could not be accommodated as space and slots are limited.

In Albay, only one TESDA provincial training center is in operation in Guinobatan town.

“We want to establish a bigger space that can cater (to) different TVET (technical-vocational education and training) to students and residents from all municipalities and city in Albay,” he said in an interview.

Cabredo added that he envisions the establishment of the center to offer state-of-the-art training courses that are similarly offered by such reputable training institutions in Metro Manila as Meralco Foundation, Inc. and the Don Bosco Technical Institute.

“Specialized courses on modern automotive technology, instrumentation and control, heavy equipment operations, 2D digital animations and 3D game development, industrial electricians, are such courses that are in demand by the industry and guarantee high-paying job opportunities here and abroad,” he said.

Cabredo said HB 1406 is a re-filed measure that had been approved in the 18th Congress.

It was approved by the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education and referred for 2nd and 3rd reading in plenary in the current Congress.

The lawmaker said he is also looking forward to its consideration in the Senate and approval by the President into a Republic Act.

“I humbly look forward that the enactment into law of this bill will benefit not only those from the 3rd District of Albay but those from other provinces in the Bicol region who wish to undergo specialized training on advanced technologies,” Cabredo said. (PNA)
