The Philippine National Police in its Vision Statement for 2030, sees itself as “a highly capable, effective and credible police service working in partnership with a responsive community towards the attainment of a safer place to live, work and do business.”

The recent accounts of PNP officials and former PNP personnel linked to drugs and road rage incidents should indeed serve as challenges in meeting this vision..It is fortunate that in Naga City, the community is generally satisfied with police services, except for a few who do not come up to the standards. The City’s Police force are mostly kind men in uniform and many of them go the extra mile to serve people.

The PNP is the pillar of public safety. The pursuit of individuals who pose a threat to people, property, and community order is their primary duty, and it should never be the reverse-that they become or create the threat they should be preventing. Cooperation by civilians is always made easier when the police gain the trust and confidence of the people that they serve and protect, through the highest code of conduct and morals.Issues concerning their integrity should be addressed and sanctioned in a prompt manner to establish a stronger accountability among their ranks.

Kudos to our own police force in Naga City. May there be many like them in other localities in the country.

QUOTATION OF THE WEEK:

“Understand, our police officers put their lives on the line for us every single day. They’ve got a tough job to do to maintain public safety and hold accountable those who break the law.”

-Barack Obama

FOR OUR WORD OF LIFE:

“Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle...”

-Psalm 144:1
