UNC Strengthens International Linkages

Helen Keller said it perfectly: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Alone we may go faster, but together, we go further - this is what partnership is all about. The University of Nueva Caceres, Bicol’s first University is strengthening international linkages, among the most recent is with the Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) of Indonesia. Two UNC Officials and their teams are instrumental in this internationalization initiative, UNC’s very own Vice President for Research, Extension and Linkages, Dr. Nora Elizabeth F. Maniquiz and Executive Director for Planning and Quality Management, Dr. Butch Saulon.

This partnership between two mighty institutions, the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) and the Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) has been officially sealed in a historic and symbolic moment during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding middle of this year. After which, an entire month was dedicated for four major events, namely: International Collaboration, Cultural Exchange and Student Leadership, Educational Technology Conference, Research Festival and Community Extension Conference. These events featured presentations of best practices, sharing of experiences and insights and opportunities for collaboration and were facilitated and attended by students, faculty, administrators, and guests from UNC and UAD.

Henry Ford has these words to say: “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” UNC and UAD’s histories together span many years back. Our meaningful milestones and breakthroughs, our shared visions and victories, and our past collaborations and engagements only strengthened our friendship and fellowship, as noted by our University President, Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Romeo M. Sumayo, Jr.

The struggles the world is facing due to the global pandemic did not hinder or hamper, only reinforced our will and intent to join forces to break boundaries and create possibilities. When two institutions – UNC and UAD, from different countries, with slightly different culture, traditions and contexts come together for their common aspirations that equally edify them, the enthusiasm is high and the reception is warm.

Synergy is cooperation that results to a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. The term synergy is of Greek origin which means “working together.” The story between UNC and UAD shall bring synergy to a whole new light. This partnership heralded undertakings worth exploring as we embark on shared adventures as academics, lifelong learners and global citizens. Together, with the brotherhood and the bridges we built, we can do more and welcome a future that holds great promises, prospects and possibilities.
