2 dead in bus-tricycle head-on collision in Bato

TWO people were killed and three others injured in a tragic head-on collision between a passenger bus and a tricycle along the Maharlika Highway in Brgy. San Vicente, Bato, Camarines Sur, on Saturday evening, September 20.
According to initial reports from the Bato Municipal Police Station, the incident occurred at around 6:30 PM when an Elavil passenger bus (Body No. 5828), driven by a 50-year-old man named “Ed” from Tagbong, Pili, Camarines Sur, attempted to overtake a wing van truck.
The maneuver caused the bus to swerve into the opposite lane, resulting in a direct collision with a red Honda TMX 155 tricycle carrying five individuals.
The tricycle was driven by a 45-year-old man identified as “Noli,” a resident of Santicon, Polangui, Albay. He was accompanied by four passengers: “Aida” (64), “Ann” (21), “Kay” (2), and “Gab,” all of whom are from the same barangay.
All five tricycle passengers sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, the driver, “Noli,” and passenger “Gab” were later pronounced dead while undergoing medical treatment. The three surviving passengers are still receiving medical care as of press time on Wednesday.
The bus driver initially fled the scene but later surrendered to authorities at the Nabua Municipal Police Station. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The Camarines Sur Police Provincial Office (CSPPO), under the leadership of Provincial Director PCOL Virgilio O. Olalia Jr., continues to investigate the incident. The police reiterated their commitment to intensified road safety enforcement as part of broader efforts to ensure public safety and order.
