LEGAZPI CITY --- Two minors were hurt on Sunday (Dec. 27) night when four gunmen riding in two motorcycles fired at the gate of the Zandra’s Beach Resort in Barangay Canvañes, Batuan town, in Masbate province, a police report said.
Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said wounded were a 14-year-old girl of Barangay Danao and a nine-year-old boy, son of the resort’s caretaker.
The minors were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of bullet wounds they sustained. The two are now in stable condition, the report said.
Initial investigation said that at around 7:47 PM, four suspects on board two motorcycles armed with unknown caliber handguns suddenly appeared and opened fire at the resort’s gate while the minors were playing basketball inside the compound.
The bullets hit the boy on the stomach while the girl was hit on the feet.
The resort was reportedly owned by Sandra Cam, a member of the board of directors of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes (PCSO).
Police investigators are still determining the identities of the suspect and looking at the possibility that politics could be behind the shooting incident.
