LEGAZPI CITY --- Two new substations are expected to rise in Ligao City and Daraga town in Albay province to improve power quality in their respective areas.
With an initial capacity of 2x20 megavolt amperes (MVA), the Ligao Substation is expected to improve the reliability and efficiency of power distribution in Ligao City and its neighboring municipalities, including Pioduran, Guinobatan, Oas, and Sabluyon.
Meanwhile, the establishment of the Daraga Substation in Barangay Cullat, with an initial capacity of 1x20 MVA, will enable Albay Electric Coop. (Aleco) to reliably and efficiently serve the power requirements of Bicol International Airport (BIA).
Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co, who led the groundbreaking ceremony in Ligao City on Thursday, highlighted the significance of the projects in uplifting the lives of Albayanos who have endured decades of frequent brownouts and inadequate power supply, hindering economic growth, education, and essential services.
“The project will increase capacity, modernize operations, and improve overall power quality through the installation of state-of-the-art SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) technology, which allows real-time monitoring and remote operation,” he said.
Co said a stable and sufficient power supply is critical for economic progress, as it supports businesses, hospitals, schools, and public institutions.
“Finally, the day that every Albayano has been waiting for is here — the beginning of improvement in the electricity service in Albay. This is the beginning of a brighter and more prosperous future for our province,” Co said.
Co added the business sector –from small entrepreneurs to larger industries such as call centers, manufacturing, and agriculture– will greatly benefit from this development.
“When there is a proper and sufficient supply of electricity, the service in schools, hospitals, and public institutions will be more efficient, which will lead to higher quality of education and health services,” he said.
The projects are expected to be completed within 18 months. (PNA)
