Cop posing as NPA nabbed for extortion
By Juan Escandor Jr. NAGA CITY--- A policeman who posed as member of the New People’s Army was arrested Monday night while securing money thru Smart Padala from a construction firm here, police reported Tuesday. Senior Police Officer 2 Tobias Bongon, police spokesperson, identified Police Officer Gilbert San Juan Embestro, 40, as the cop that a police posse entrapped in an outlet of Smart Padala here. The money was sent by Rustan Oliva, 37, foreman of China Geo Construction Corp. Bongon said Oliva reported the extortion try by suspect Embestro that resulted in his arrest by operatives of the intelligence unit of the Camarines Sur police provincial unit and the Philippine Army. He said the police recovered from Embestro three cellphones, one of which contained text messages regarding the suspect’s transaction with Oliva, a cal. .45 and a 9 mm firearm and the claim stab of Smart Padala. Bongon said several other complainants identified Embestro as the same person who extorted from them. He said the arrested cop is now detained at the police station in Naga City while a criminal case has been submitted for his inquest at the prosecutor’s office.
