SM City Naga is PRA’s Mall of the Year – Medium Category
MANILA -- SM City Naga was awarded as the Shopping Center of the Year (Medium Category) during the 20th Outstanding Filipino Retailers and Shopping Centers of the Year Awards Night of the Philippine Retailer’s Association (PRA), held recently at the Solaire Resort & Casino in Parañaque City. The first SM Supermall in the Bicol region, SM City Naga opened its doors to the public in 2009, and since that time has become the destination mall of Naga City, the center of trade, commerce, transport, finance, education and government services in Camarines Sur. Strategically located in a 44,279-square meter property along Roxas Avenue in the city’s Central Business District, the 69,695-square meter mall houses 179 local and international brands offering a myriad of shopping, dining & entertainment options in an environmentally-efficient structure which is one ride away from neighboring towns and cities. SM City Naga has the most comprehensive product mix among shopping centers in the whole Bicol Region with The SM Store and SM Supermarket as its major anchors, SM mainstays like SM Appliance Center, Ace Hardware and Watsons, and tenants -- offering merchandise and services that extend beyond the basic shopping experience, taking the consumer across multiple categories. Over the years, it has also been a key resource for the development of regional indigenous businesses, giving them a world-class arena to compete in the market. SM City Naga has brought in brands that can only be found in the mall, thus giving its local market a fashion edge while giving tourists another reason to shop here. SM City Naga also offers mall-goers convenient facilities such as its safe parking facilities, being the only structure in the Bicol Region with free ticketed and guarded, multi-level parking building. As a responsible member of the community, SM City Naga has spearheaded many corporate social responsibility projects such as PWD-accessible facilities, for which it received the 2011 Apolinario Mabini Award. Through SM Cares, it has launched programs for the elderly, women, and children, for which it has received awards like the 2014 Search for Model Breastfeeding Companies. It has also been active in environmental endeavors like the sewage treatment plant & water recycling system, proper waste segregation, use of LED illuminated jets for its water fountain, landscaping projects and the Trash-to-Cash recycling program. It was the recipient of the 2013 Zero Basura Olympics – Candidate Master from Earth Day Network Philippines, Inc. SM City Naga has also participated in locally-organized, government & civic events, and in the celebration of the city’s Peñafrancia Festival and Camarines Sur’s Kaogma Festival. The mall has maintained its position as the city’s top taxpayer since it opened business in 2009. During the same event, other members of the SM Group also received awards. Elevated to the Hall of Fame were Surplus (Fashion Apparel – Large category), Uniqlo (Foreign Brand Fashion Apparel – Mega Category) and Ace Hardware (Foreign Brand Retailer – Home Improvement category); while SM Supermarket received an award in the Supermarket category. Also recognized were finalists in their respective categories: Save More (Supermarket category), The Body Shop (Foreign Brand Specialty Retailer – Medium category), and SM City Molino & SM Southmall (Shopping Center of the Year – Medium & Large categories). SM Supermalls and SM Prime Holdings, Inc. meanwhile received the PRA Special Award - honoring their international accolades during International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Asia Pacific Shopping Center Awards 2016. The annual search for the Outstanding Filipino Retailers seeks to recognize Filipino retailers who have epitomized the model of a successful retailer in terms of growth and good ethical business practices. The Philippine Retailer’s Association (PRA) introduced the Shopping Centers of the Year category in 2002, which recognizes the Philippines’ world-class shopping centers’ part in promoting the growth and development of the retail industry.
