BREAKING NEWS: Suspect in trader’s slay try killed by police in shootout

Arguelles LEGAZPI CITY --- One of two suspects on the hunt to kill a businessman was shot dead by police officers yesterday afternoon (Nov. 15) in front of a mall in this city’s business district, according to Chief Insp. Arthur Gomez, spokesperson of the Albay Police Provincial Office. The two suspects – Marlon Magsino and Michael Malveda, 43 -- were riding in tandem on a motorbike before the shootout. They shot at the van where on board was 48-year-old Alex Herrman Alemania, reportedly the chairman of Lucky V Prime Enterprises Corp., operator of the Small Town Lottery (STL) in Albay. Alemania was with a woman and several other companions during the shooting. Alemania and the woman, who were both injured, were taken to the nearby Albay Doctors Hospital. Responding police officers got into a shootout with the two suspects at around 5:30 p.m. in front of a mall on Quezon Avenue in this city. Magsino, a resident of Barangay San Andres in Malvar town in Batangas province, died instantly in the firefight. Malveda, a resident of Barangay San Lucas in Lipa City, survived with injuries. He was taken to the Bicol Regional Teaching and Training Hospital in Daraga town. Manwhile, an army soldier was killed in an encounter with New People’s Army rebels in Ligao City, also yesterday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Albay said. Killed was Army Private First Class Ryan Belga, 23, single, a resident of Polangui, Albay. Police spokesman, Police Chief Gomez., said the Army soldiers while on patrol engaged in a firefight a band of New People’s Army (NPA) in Bgy. Balanac at around 10:10 o’clock in the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 15. The firefight that lasted for about 20 minutes that resulted in the death of Belga.
