Army man shot dead in Albay

Arguelles LEGAZPI CITY --- An Army soldier was gunned down on Saturday (Nov. 18) morning by suspected communist rebels at a marketplace in Barangay Anislag, Daraga, Albay, according to Chief Inspector Arthur Gomez, spokesperson for the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Albay. The slain soldier was identified as Army Private First Class George Rey Murillo 27, a resident of Bgy. Cumadcad, Castilla, Sorsogon, Gomez said. Report said the victim was doing a market chore at around 6:00 a.m. Saturday when he was attacked by 3 unidentified armed men believed to be members of the sparrow unit of the New People Army (NPA) rebels operating in the town. Gomez said the victim sustained bullet wounds in his head killing him instantly. The attackers fled and carted away the victim’s service firearm.
