Fetus found outside an evacuation center

By Celso Amo LEGAZPI CITY --- A lifeless female fetus was found Monday afternoon inside an empty cement sack behind the Bitano evacuation center here. Police Senior Inspector Milet Tilos, Legazpi City police spokesperson, said the full term fetus was tied at the stomach with a steel wire. Tilos said three laborers at nearby SM Super Mall which is now being rushed for its slated opening on April this year found the fetus inside an empty cement sack on a pile of garbage at about 2:00 p.m. on Monday. There are 436 families or 1,600 persons who are staying at Bitano Elementary School from Barangay Mabinit, one of the barangays at risk at the seven kilometer extended danger zone on Mayon’s southeast flank. She said the steel wire tied around the fetus’ stomach could have killed it. “Or the fetus had already been dead before it was thrown because none of the evacuees ever heard any new born crying,” Tilos added. “We immediately check all the women who had just delivered at the evacuation site to find out the suspect,” said Tilos. Personnel from Legazpi City Health Office as well as from the Department of Health examined the fetus before it was buried at Legazpi City cemetery. Police authorities are still investigating the case.
