Legazpi alternate road to ease traffic
By Ernesto Delgado LEGAZPI CITY --- A P10M alternate road will soon be constructed in this city to prevent traffic congestion amid the ongoing construction of the northern boulevard. According to Mayor Noel Rosal, the city government has allocated P10M for the construction of another route towards the regional center in Barangay Rawis. The road will cover the coastal areas of barangays Sabang, Pigcale, Centro Bay-bay down to the regional center in Barangay Rawis. Rosal said that the construction of the new road and northern boulevard is vital in sustaining the city’s tourism industry and the community’s entrepreneurial activities. “The construction of this new road and northern boulevard is very important for sustaining the city’s tourism industry that would provide more opportunities to residents who want to engage in any form of entrepreneurial activities that will generate jobs and employment to the constituents in the community,” he said. Rosal noted these two sub-projects under the city’s Tourism-Infrastructure Development Projects can also serve as a perfect place for physical fitness activities and another venue for leisure and recreation of its constituents and visitors. “This project in the coastal portion of the city will also increase its land value. That will benefit the residents in those areas,” he added. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), in partnership with the city government, oversees the civil works of the northern boulevard. It is designed to protect the lives and properties of the villagers from storm surges during typhoons. “The construction of the boulevard is 50 percent complete,” Rosal said. The boulevard has a total funding of P800M and is part of the P2.1B flood control project downloaded by the national government to the DPWH.
