PRC CamSur directors bag Humanitarian Award

NAGA CITY --- April 17 (PIA) – Camarines Sur Vice Governor Fortunato “Ato” Peña and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Camarines Sur Provincial Head Ana-Liza S. Macatangay recently received one of the prestigious honor from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) during its 32nd Biennial National Convention held from April 11 to 13 at the Manila Hotel. Peña, the current Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Camarines Sur Chapter and Macatangay, Board Secretary was bestowed with the PRC Silver Humanitarian Silver Cross Awards and Aurora Aragon Quezon Medal Awards respectively for their significant contribution in fulfilling the Red Cross’ mission of being in the frontier of humanitarian service. The PRC’s 71st year anniversary coincided with the 32nd Biennial National Convention which allowed all Red Crossers coming from 104 chapters nationwide to convene and gather to renew their passion, plan out for more innovation and show the unwavering spirit of volunteerism especially during the most trying times. PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Richard Gordon underscored the milestones of the organization, citing the numerous occasion where the volunteers have shown unmatched dedication and fervor to be of service to the most vulnerable communities, even in the farthest outskirts of the country. “I commend our legions of volunteers and our partners who continuously support the PRC’s effort to alleviate human suffering. With their help and commitment, we are able to live up to our mantra. Volunteers+ logistics+ Information technology = a Red Cross that is Always first, Always ready, always there.” President Rodrigo Roa Duterte also sent his congratulatory message to the PRC, highlighting the organization’s assistance during the Marawi crisis. The message reads: “since day one of the rebellion in Marawi City, your volunteers have shown extraordinary courage and faced grave dangers in pursuit of your noble humanitarian mission. It is truly laudable that during and in the aftermath of the conflict, you have established welfare desks around the city and provided first aid, psychosocial support, clean water and hot meals to our affected countrymen.” For the first time, PRC also recognized its media partners who promoted its significant programs like the Million Volunteer Run (MVR), Mayon Volcano and Typhoon Vinta relief efforts, and the promotion of its logistical capacity as bannered by the M/V Amazing Grace, a humanitarian vessel that can serve as an ambulance and a disaster response ship.
