Occupational safety, health workshop slated on May 15

NAGA CITY --- Due to the upcoming barangay elections, the Construction Occupational Safety and Health (COSH) Training originally slated to open on May 14 has been moved to May 15 at the function hall of Pilgrims Hotel, Basilica Road, in this city. The training will last until May 19 at the same venue. The 5-day training is in consonance of DOLE’s Department Order No. 13 which requires that all construction companies must be able to develop a health and safety program that will be implemented in project sites, according to Ferdinand ‘Dondon’ D. Sia, president of the Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “We wish to make it more convenient and less expensive to local practitioners and workers by bringing the training closer to home,” Sia said. Originally held in Legazpi City periodically, the 5-day workshop training is being brought here – closer to the construction workers in the cities of Naga and Iriga and the provinces of Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte – by the Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI), in cooperation with the Bicol Occupational Safety and Health Network, Inc. the Employers Confederation of the Philippines- Bicol Chapter, and the Occupational Safety and Health Center of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol Regional Office. Engr. Oliver E. Aligan, OSH Practitioner and president of Bicol OSHNET, explained the objective of the training is to provide the participants with the basic knowledge and skills on occupation safety and health (OSH) in the construction industry that will enable them to plan and/or develop a safety program for their employment. The training seminar could only accommodate 40 to 50 participants for the whole 5-day package to ensure a more convenient and conducive learning and teaching environment. Inquiries may be forwarded to the office of Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) at the ground floor of Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum (054) 871-552, email: metronagachamber86@gnmail.com, or through 09258222843 (Peachy).
