36 colleges, universities in Bicol to raise tuition
By Jorge Hallare LEGAZPI CITY --- The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Tuesday approved the request to increase tuition fees in 36 private and government colleges and universities in the Bicol Region for the 2018-2019 school year. CHED Regional Administrative Officer Dr. Dominador Mediavillo, in an interview Tuesday, said the central office in Manila has approved the requests of these schools to implement tuition hike. “Thirty-four are private and two are community colleges, which are under the supervision of local government units or LGUs. These universities and colleges had asked to implement 5 to 50 percent increase in tuition fees to pay for the salaries of their teachers, personnel, upgrade of their equipment and laboratories, and a small percent as return of investment,” he said. These schools are located in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Camarines Norte, Masbate, and Catanduanes. Their tuition fee adjustment per unit ranged from P25 to P150.
