Good Morning Judge: The Getty Center Today

WE were in San Diego last Saturday and spent our weekend at Belmont Park and then proceeded our way to Carlsbad Lagoon where our son Arnel and daughters Cecil and Tessie and our grandchildren Pia and Ethan went jet-skiing. It was a sunny afternoon but the wind breezed thru without one’s skin getting tanned. Then we visited Minda’s sister Lita at her sprawling residence at Chula Vista where we were welcomed to a late afternoon lunch with her husband Mike Henshaw and their accountant son Cris, together with his girlfriend Rosie. It was there where we lingered on for quite a time remembering old times and as expected goodbyes were accompanied with tears and bear hugs. But even good things had to end and we went back to our hotel where we spent the night. The morning after, we went to attend mass at the St. Rafael Parish Church which is only fifteen minutes’ drive from our hotel. There we saw many Filipino faces who presumably are now residents of the neighboring counties. Then we had our lunch at The Draft, at resto-bar by the sea, at Belmont. We went home back to Los Angeles through a traffic-laden 3-hour trip. Then on July 18 we re-visited the Getty Center which we noted to have more improved than the last time Minda and I were there. There were additional pavilions. The collection Highlights include the Painting Galleries which arrayed the famous and undying paintings of Manet, Degas, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Cezanne, and Dossi among others. The Sculpture and Decorative Art Galleries include the works of Giacometti, De Vries and Boulle. I was hoping to see one of my favorite paintings, “The Return of the Prodigal Son” by Rembrandt but unfortunately it was not included in the collection.
