4 Naga students win in int’l math competitions


By Armie B. Gunay NAGA CITY --- Four students from two schools in this city who represented the Philippines in different international mathematics competitions took home various awards. They are Dominic Villegas of St. Joseph School and Sean Arman Abergos, Jence Enrico Dela Fuente and Pearl Matthea Panganiban, all of the Ateneo de Naga University. Villegas, a Grade 8 student of St. Joseph School, won a Bronze medal in the 2018 World Mathematics Invitational Finals held in South Korea last July 13- 17, 2018. Atenean Abergos also took home a Bronze Medal in the Individual and Team competition of the 2018 China Primary Mathematics Olympiad conducted last July 27- August 1 in Zhejang Province of China. Sean Arman Abergos of the Ateneo de Naga University Grade School. Grade 11 student Panganiban, also an Atenean, won Bronze in the 2018 International Mathematics Wizard Challenge conducted in Jakarta, Indonesia last May. Dela Fuente, a Grade 6 Ateneo student, won three medals different competitions in Mathematics -- 3rd place in the First International Festival Mathematical Triathlon Apollonia held in Zosopol, Bulgaria last June 2018; 2nd Runner-up in the Bulgaria International Mathematics Competition conducted in Burgas, Bulgaria last July 2018; and a Gold medal in the 2018 International Junior Math Olympiad conducted in Bangkok, Thailand, last July. Jence Enrico Dela Fuente of the Ateneo de Naga University Grade School, represented by his teachers. The young Naga Match wizards were honored by the city government officials and employees led by Mayor John G. Bongat during the flag raising ceremony at the city hall grounds last Monday, Aug. 20, for bringing honor, pride and glory to the city with their excellent academic performance.
