Reminder: Total gun ban for the fiesta

Arguelles NAGA CITY --- As Bicolanos celebrate the Feast of Penafrancia, a 10-day total gun ban is in effect throughout his city from September 7 during the traslacion last week until September 16, which is the feast day of Our lady of Penafrancia, the patroness of Bicolandia. Chief PNP Oscar Albayalde, in response to the request of the City government of Naga, has directed police units in Naga City to enforce the 10-day total gun ban, Chief Inspector Maria Luisa Calubaquib PNP Bicol spokesperson said.. Calubaquib said all permits to carry firearms out of residence are suspended effective on the period mentioned. She said the gun ban is a security measure that would ensure the safety of millions of devotees and local and foreign visitors that would be gathered in Naga City to observe the annual feast of Our Lady of Penafrancia. She added “this would serve as a warning to any gun holder to refrain from carrying their firearms when in Naga City for the duration of the religious festivities.” Meanwhile, telecommunication companies operating their cell sites in Naga City have shutdown communication signals during the traslacion, or the foot procession carrying the miraculous images of the Blessed Virgin and the Divino Nostro for security measures. This will be repeated during the fluvial procession on Saturday afternoon, September 15.
