By Sigrid Peralta-Emralino

NAGA CITY --- As the nomination to this year’s search for The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of the Philippines is nearing its deadline on September 30, this year, members of the Junior Chamber International Naga Carinosa (JCI Naga Carinosa) are hopeful that more nominees will come from the Bicol Region.

TOYM, or “The Outstanding Young Men” of the Philippines, is a national search for individuals who have made an impact in their respective fields of endeavor: Filipinos who show leadership excellence and genuine service to the community.

TOYM, a project of the Philippine Jaycees, has been giving recognition for 59 yearsnow. Since 1959, some 20 Bicolanos have been bestowed with the award for their “outstanding leadership and excellence” in their respective fields. From Naga City alone, Camarines Sur Gov. Jose Bulaong, former Trade Minister Luis Villafuerte Sr, Naga City Administrator Jun Mongoso, and DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo, the latter having been awarded as one of The Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) the highest award for a Filipino.

JCI Naga Carinosa had hosted a stakeholder’s night last July 14 to kick off the search here. Earlier, a stakeholders’ night was conducted in Legazpi City last June 30.

A stakeholder’s Night has been one of TOYM 2018’s National Committee’s goals to further widen the search for deserving honorees.

JCI Naga Carinosa is led by its president, Russel Pua-Tan, JCI. Sen. Leanne Zuniga-Montemayor and TOYM 2018 area chairman, Sigrid Peralta-Emralino, with JCI Iriga and JCI Isarog as collaborating partners in scouting for qualified nominees that may come from any of the following fields: art, literature, journalism, education law, politics, agriculture, science and technology, economics, banking, business, sports, government service, and other disciplines.

JCI National President 2018, JCI Sen. Rey Felix Rafols, along with the entire National Board Committee, and RVP Liezl Alfonso graced the stakeholders’ night to drumbeat the prestigious search. He encouraged everyone, especially all the Bicolanos, to participate in the search by sending their own unsung young heroes for the nominations.

The deadline of the Nominations was on September 15, 2018, and the submission of their portfolios is set on September 30, 2018.
