Miss Earth bets want to heal the planet

LEGAZPI CITY --- Thirty of the 90 candidates for this year’s Miss Earth beauty pageant, including Miss Earth Philippines Silvia Celeste Cortesi, 20, arrived in this city last Oct. 19 for various pro-environment and tourism activities. They said that to heal the planet they need to plant more trees.

The candidates planted mangrove seedlings in Barangay Puro of this city, which activity was assisted by Legazpi Mayor Noel Rosal, Kusog Bikolandia chairman Noel de Luna, Ms. Vangie Imperial of Imperial Productions, Legazpi Host Lions Club, NUJP Albay Chapter represented by this writer, and the Philippine Network of Environmental Journalists (PNEJ).

Cortesi, an Italian half Filipina is the newly-crowned Miss Earth Philippines 2018. She joined the local Miss Earth Philippine competition in Italy where she represented the Filipino community in Rome. She is the first contestant from Filipino community abroad to win the Miss Earth Philippines title.

Alison Delma of France who expressed admiration of Legazpi City’s beautiful green scenery and the local folks’ hospitality said that planting trees is a crucial and powerful weapon to fight global warming.
