LEGAZPI CITY --- Malacañang has declared Oct. 26 a special non-working holiday in Catanduanes, in connection with the celebration of the province’s 73rd founding anniversary.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed Proclamation 603 on Oct. 15, declaring Friday as a non-working holiday in the entire province to give the people of Catanduanes the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.

“By the authority given to me by the President, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, do hereby declare Friday, October 26, 2018 a special (non-working) holiday in the province of Catanduanes,” the proclamation said.

Catanduanes is an island-province situated east of Camarines Sur across Maqueda Channel.

It was a former sub-province of Ambos Camarines in the early 1900s and later of Albay.

It was Congressman Francisco Perfecto who filed House Bill 301, which separated the province from Albay, on September 26, 1945. The law was passed and was subsequently signed by President Sergio Osmeña on October 24, 1945.
