Chef Doy’s wins showdown 2018 reg’l trophy

Apart from their city becoming more popular among food lovers, Naguenos now have another reason to be proud of on a national level.

Chef Doy’s Gourmet Restaurant, one of Naga’s favourite dining spots along Magsaysay Avenue restaurant row, won the Klasika Kulinarya Regional Trophy for NCR / Southern Luzon in the recently concluded 12th National Food Showdown held in Manila last month.

The NFS’ Battle Royale Category – Klasika Kulinarya, professional division, had for its theme “Ginataang Sugpo”, where a team of two members had to prepare one classical and one modern version of the dish. Chef Doy’s entries, entitled Sugpong Suanoy for classical and Duo of Prawns for modern, was awarded the gold medal and the most-coveted Klasika Kulinarya Regional Trophy.

The National Food Showdown is the country’s only nationwide culinary event organized in the different regions in coordination with NFS’ regional partners in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Held in August till October this year were the following events: Kumbira in Cagayan de Oro for Mindanao, the Cebu Goes Culinary in Cebu for Visayas, the HRT Weekend in Baguio City for Luzon and the NFS – NCR held at the Elements, Eton Centris in Quezon City.
