Good Morning Judge: The Political Race
Due to some glitches in our laptop computer we were not able to write our regular column last week. Anyway, we are glad that our BM space was occupied by our good friend lawyer James Jacob whom we have not seen for quite sometime. His lovely spouse was my student in the UNC College of Law years back.
As the 2019 midterm local and national elections draw near it would seem that events are happening quite fast. Bill boards of national and local candidates along our highways are now visible announcing their candidacies. As of late, Naga City and Camarines Sur have been visited by some senatorial hopefuls considering that our voting population is among the biggest in the country. In the local governatorial race, both the Andaya and Villafuerte camps are not wanting in their own respective political gimmicks to get the voter’s attention, and perhaps their commitments. Our good friend Sal Fortuno’s “parol sa kada harong” contest this coming Christmas season is a wise conceptualization for vote-getting. A former media man, Sal cannot be wanting in political ads.
In Partido District, latest events show that finally former Speaker Noli Fuentebella is giving way to his son Arnie for congressman of third congressional district. Perhaps, it’s really high time for Compadring Noli to rest. He has had his own well-deserved laurels in public service which his kins can emulate and be proud of.
In Naga City, the mayoralty race is an interesting political battle between vice-mayor Nelson Legacion and our good friend millionaire Tato Mendoza and the ever-mayoralty aspirant Louie Ortiga. It’s anybody’s political game with Tato’s millions in his command and Nelson’s political organization in-tack under retiring Naga Hizzoner John Bongat’s leadership. As to Louie Ortega, as they say hope springs eternal. The political come back of former Naga City councilor Jojo Tuazon is most welcome. His stint as Naga’s councilor years back speaks for itself. He deserves to be back in the city council. Now that the term of Mayor John Bongal is over, he is welcome back to the league of private law practitioners in Naga and Camarines Sur. Or he may go on well-deserved vacation in Europe or USA with wife Farah and family.
TRIVIA:
Thru this column we wish to remind the officers and members of the Knights of Rizal of our special meeting this coming Saturday December 8, at the Rizal Center. Important matters relative to the coming Rizal Day Celebration on December 30 will be taken up considering that we are the lead organization in said celebration.
The regular meeting of the Knights of Columbus will also be this coming Sunday, December 9, at 9:00am. At 6:00pm will also be our Christmas Party. All members are encourage to attend both events.
The USI high school batch ‘55 will also have their Christmas party on Monday, December 10.
With all this Christmas parties up-coming it’s perhaps a good reminder for us to check on our cholesterol level.
