PNP Bicol gets more weapons, ammunitions
LEGAZPI CITY --- The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Bicol has acquired hundreds of new assault rifles and rounds of ammunition, including firearms accessories, during a turn over ceremony last Monday, January21, at Camp Gen. Simeon Ola here. Police Chief Supt. Arnel Escobal, PNP Bicol regional director, in an interview on Tuesday said the new equipment is part of the PNP’s continuing modernization program aimed to spur internal security operations, fight against lawless elements, and intensify the government’s war on illegal drugs. Escobal said: “This undertaking is part of the PNP Modernization program which aims to develop capabilities in assisting agencies in the enforcement of policies as well as international covenants in the performance of its police and internal security functions.” The ISO Equipment includes: 300 units of Galil 5.56mm Assault Rifles; 108,000 rounds of cartridge for Galil 5.56 mm Ball; 2,100 pcs of Mag 30 rounder for AR15/M16 5.56mm; Around 300 pcs of Tactical Sling; 300 pcs of Detachable Forward Grip; 300 pcs cleaning kit; 300 pcs of Instructional Manual; 35 units Thermal Imager; 122 GPS with complete accessories and batteries. A minibus Toyota Coaster (General Dispatch Vehicle) for the regional headquarters was also turned over. Escobal distributed the ISO equipment to the Regional Mobile Force, the six provincial mobile force companies and the six provincial offices. He said the distribution of the new assault firearms and ammunition would boost the police operational readiness against insurgency and criminal activities in Bicol.
