The Holy Rosary Minor Seminary held an event called Actus Academicus with the theme “Wanted Latin: Dead or Alive” last February 6, 2019 at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary Covered Court. The Actus is an annual event that showcases the talents and learning outcomes of seminarians for the whole school year. For this year, the event focused on Latin, a subject offered for Grades 9 and 10 and the Senior High School level. The event was graced by Dra. Mary Jane Guanzon- UY, M.D. and Atty. Avelino V. Sales Jr., who spoke about the importance of Latin in the profession of medicine and of law. It also featured the Grade 10 seminarians who presented a Gregorian Chant, a traditional song of the Church with Latin lyrics and the Grade 9 seminarians who showcased a Latin group recital. This event culminated with a stage play titled “Lingua Barbara”, a comedy play about the Roman soldiers trying to learn the English language. The activity was witnessed by the different audiences coming from Naga Parochial School, St. Joseph School and Universidad de Santa Isabel. The event was initiated by Rev. Fr. Mario B. Gaite, one of the teachers in Latin subject and the rector of the institution.
