The Political Forum
THE Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry headed by Don Sia is reportedly sponsoring a political forum where the two mayoralty candidates, administration bet incumbent Vice Mayor Nelson Legacion and opposition bet Jose “Tato” Mendoza, have been invited. This political forum is not a debate between the two contending mayoralty bets but, as appropriately indicated, a business forum where the two bets will be given the opportunity to ventilate their plans and programs for Metro Naga once elected as the city mayor. Mayor John Bongat is ending his term with high colors having done a lot for the city in terms of infra projects, garbage disposal, drainage canals thus eliminating occasions of floods in flood-prone areas in the city, paved and cemented streets and thoroughfares, and many others, to name a few. I am sure Naga’s electorate would be expecting much more from both Legacion and Mendoza. Some political pundits have aired the view that Vice Mayor Legacion’s experience as former city legal officer, former councilor and now as incumbent vice-mayor will run a long way to prepare him for the mayoralty position. Others also maintain that Mendoza’s experience in business and civic leadership has prepared him to the task of mayorship of a fast growing metropolis like Naga. We therefore hope that Naga’s electorate would get enlightened vote-wise with the slated political forum.
In the meantime, political jingles abound both on radio and TV networks and practically everywhere. So far, from the start of the electoral process and even up to this writing there have been no reported incidents of violence and it is our hope it will be so until up to the end of election process. It is a tribute to us Nagaenos who are generally peacefully inclined equaled by the diligence and alertness of our police authorities.
To all Nagaenos, therefore, please make every vote count.
